6 notebooks that change your life

For many years, I looked for solutions to DEVELOP myself & improve my skills. Then by luck, I learned the Secret of the 6 notebooks that change life.

6 notebooks that change your life
Codex Leicester by Leonardo Da Vinci

As you know, the Italian Genius Leonardo da Vinci has handwritten over 30 books, of which the most famous one is “Codex Leicester” written around 1508. It was purchased at an auction by Bill Gates for $ 30.8 million in 1994.

This handbook has 72 pages, written in reverse method – that is a mirror way of writing. You must use a mirror for the pages to be read.

Bill Gates auctioned the notebook for USD30.8 million in 1994

The billionaire Richard Branson (the founder of Virgin Group) and many other billionaires also own their own notebooks. Branson says that success is in the details, so he takes note of every single one – literally.

In this article, I will share with you the principle of the 6 notebooks that definitely change your life:

1. Wisdom Notebook

Sometimes, you find some information from facebook, from a interesting book, from watching videos, listening to audio or getting shared by another person. Most people find it interesting, unique, useful … but then you gradually forget it.

Jim Rohn says:

“Don’t trust your memory”

Jim Rohn

So when listening, watching, studying, reading, sharing or enlightening yourself to something unique and interesting, you should make notes and summarize your understanding in this notebook.

“Keep a pen and notebook;
Carry it everywhere;
Note down the points; and
Attend to those points.”

Richard Brandson

What are the benefits?

After a while, you will possess a lot of interesting knowledge, valuable experiences. So that whenever you reread you will be surprised – unbelievably these are written by yourself.

It is not always the brain that attains a high level of wisdom or enlightenment. That moment often passes very quickly. If you do not take notes and summarize as soon as the idea appears, you will quickly forget or remember it incorrect.

The usual mistakes are not taking note & summaring knowledge, turning others’ knowledge into your own. That’s why most of the valueable information is often forgotten.

On the other hand, if you don’t go through your ideas and turn them into actions, you cannot make them from KNOW to UNDERSTAND.

In Buddhism, there are 3 steps to get wisdoms, namely: Theory – Thought – Practice.

  • Theory. Your ideas, others’ ideas or wisdoms.
  • Thought. Learning in a refinery way, think deeply of what you learnt.
  • Practice. Apply theory to practice and validate the theory yourself.

Understanding these 3 concepts, you can apply them in many cases.

Example on Self-study

Some people read books – that’s just theory. Without thinking, discussing, asking questions – that means there are no thoughts. There are thoughts, but not applying in reality – that means there is no practice. If you listen to a successful person sharing experiences, that means one person’s practice becomes the other’s theory. Your mission is to turn that person’s practice into your practice to fully understand the whole picture of the theory you learned. Do you have a self-examination and find the appropriate strategy?

Theory – Thought – Practice is the way to go to ENLIGHTENMENT! The wisdom notebook is the first step on this journey.

2. Goals – Ideas & Strategies & Planning Notebook

Codex Leicester that change your life
Codex Leicester

This is a notebook that records your monthly & yearly goals. The strategies & plans that you will implement. Setting goals will be discussed on another topic, not in this article.

Basically, write down what you WANT.

It is possible in the following key areas:

  • Finance (Example: Earnings, income, total assets ….)
  • Personal Development (Example: Learning negotiation skills, leadership, foreign languages …)
  • Health (Example: Weight, height, playing sports, fitness, yoga …)
  • Entertainment (Example: Traveling, music …)
  • Dedication (Example: Helping someone, doing charity, giving values …)
  • Relationship (Example: Married, having children …)

Important things:

At the beginning of the month you write down your goals.

At the end of the month, you can review how you have done, how many tasks you have completed and record in the RESULTS section.

Mistakes to avoid:

  • Most people have no goals
  • OR no full goals:
    Short-term (week, month), medium-term (1-2 year), long-term (3-10 years)
  • Not focus on accomplishing the goal.
  • Setting goals that are too simple or unrealistic.

What are the benefits?

The benefit of THIS NOTEBOOK is to help you concentrate on completing your goals & supervising yourself. Hone the goal setting skill is one of the most important skills.

What happens if you find yourself missing a GOAL by the end of the month? (Do you know that by the end of the month, you have to accomplish or should you set goals that are both challenging and feasible?)

What happens if you find yourself accomplishing 4/5 goals by the end of the month? Very satisfied and excited for the next month right?

Not knowing what you want will never achieve what you want, and continue a life of “drifting clouds” ….

3. Success Diary Notebook

One of the worst emotions of most people is DISSATISFACTION.

Dissatisfied with yourself, dissatisfied with the present ….

The more dissatisfied, the more depressed they are; then comes negative thoughts, wrong actions, and more failures.

Let me share with you a secret:

Success attracts success.

Have you ever seen the video the Secret? It’s a documentary film about the Law of Attraction.

“Under the Law of Attraction, the complete order of the Universe is determined, including everything that comes into your life and everything that you experience. It does so through the magnetic power of your thoughts. Through the Law of Attraction”

A success Diary Notebook is the one that you note down once in 1-5 day about what you have done, what you have done well, or simply a positive thing.

For example:

  • Meeting 1 person, (name of book), sharing about…. Very nice!
  • Help 1 person, (name of person) 1 small task: … Happy!
  • Read a good book: (name of book, author). Lessons learnt
  • Go to work on time….
  • There is a good idea: …
  • Get up early … to work (name of work)

Write really briefly only 5-10 ideas, each idea in 1 sentence, short. Do not write as long as the diary is. (although the book’s name is a Successful Diary.)

Because if you write short, you can do that every day. If you keep a long diary, you will probably feel it hard, bording and you are not going to have the mood of writing for the next time. There are days when you only have 2-3 successes, or a minor accomplishment, take note.

Benefits of Success Diary notebook?

When you write down these things, positive emotions well up in you.

Satisfied on yourself!

You may think, today or the last few days have been very wonderful, KEEP ON.

Sometimes you read it again to recall the WINNING MOMENT, when you find yourself AWESOME!

And remember:

Making positive feeling for SUCCESS and
Small success will attract BIGGER SUCCESS!

That is the Law of Attraction to change your life!

Bill Clinton, when being the President
Bill Clinton, when being the President

In 1968, Bill Clinton was at Oxford University, he met a post-graduate student named Stamps at a party. Bill took out a black notebook and asked:

  • “What are you doing at Oxford?”
  • “I am studying at Pembroke thanks to the Fulbright scholarship.”

Bill took notes of Pembroke in his notebook and went on to ask about the school and areas where Stamps graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Stamps asked in surprise.

  • “Bill, why do you have to write everything down on paper?”
  • “I will turn to politics, I will run for state governor, I want to record all the people I have met.” Bill said.

This story told by Stamps highlights the outspoken style of Bill Cliton in asking for help or enticing others to join their mission.

In fact, right from time sitting at school, this 42nd president had a habit of writing on paper tags every night, and all the important information of the people he met during the day.

A relationship notebook is a book that records your quality relationships.

You can briefly and simply list the information about all relationships such as full name, date of birth (birthday), career and competency, other relationships …

In reality, your life often changes for 2 things:

  1. The books you read.
  2. The people you met.

There is a pretty good recipe:

Relationship + Relationship + … + Relationship = EVERYTHING

Maybe many of us know but few understand how to manipulate.

Benefits of Relationship Notebook?

To remind you to stay connected or take the time to cross support, help others and to get help when needed.

Mistakes to avoid:

On average, 1 person has 200-300 relationships.

Most people have some quality relationships. Sometimes, you meet a person at a glance, but rarely you note down anything from that one.

Another type of relationship is a bridging relationship. That is, you know a person A, a normal person, but that person is quite close to person B – someone who has the ability that you need B to help. If you have a good relationship with A, you can ask A to bridge the relationship for you to B.

Unfortunately, when you get stuck, you rarely think of the network of relationships to handle that. A lot of people will handle things instinctively or lonely.

If in your network there is 1 MENTOR (Coach), who has all the qualifications, abilities and experience, your life will accelerate rapidly in a very short period of time.

To learn more about relationship development strategies, you can read 3 books:

  • How to win friends and influence people
  • Never eat alone
  • Who’s got your back.

Relationship earn you money.

6. Work Notebook (time management)

Sir Richard Branson (founder of Virgin Group) is an extraordinary individual who has dyslexia. He has taught himself the habit of memorizing things through notes.

Richard Branson reveals one of the most powerful tools he has as a successful business wizard. You can expect this to be a complicated or unique trick.

No, it is not.

However, in fact, Branson’s secret weapon mentioned that the old HAND BOOK which always goes with him wherever he is.

Handwritten notes – he says are useful in managing, negotiating and even legal situations.

Expressing every thought on paper, once not having a notebook in hand, Branson even wrote on his passport.

Branson is particularly fond of using a pen to write on paper rather than sliding his fingers on the keyboard because it is not annoying or distracting in a meeting.

How to use:

For example, you can write down to organize and manage time as follows:

  • 08h: Working A
  • 10h: Meet person B
  • 12h: Go to event C
  • 14h: Working D
  • 16h: Working E
  • 18h: Meet person F
  • 20h: Working G
  • 22h: Working H

In addition, you can use it to record or express whatever you are thinking, desiring, problems or solutions … ..

PREPARATION for a sale, negotiation or meeting with a partner….

Benefits of using NOTEBOOKS regularly

1) Due to the special mental connection between the finger and the brain, every time you use a pen to write on paper, you are increasing your concentration and remembering in a special way.

You make the problem to be clear and bright.

For example, Mark Zuckerberg (founder of Facebook) often expressed his thoughts on whiteboards since he was a university student.

2) You can review an incident that happened 3-5 years ago, exactly on that day. Interestingly, right?

If success is a journey, sometimes reviewing the past you will know your future.

Share my own personal experiences:

1) I started practicing 6 books from 2016

2) At first I am not familiar with writing and often forget to take notes

3) Currently I maintain this habit regularly as follows:

Wisdom notebook: once every 3 to 7 days, I take note of unexpected learning or enlightenment.

Currently has recorded 4 thick books. Quite a lot of the experiences, I can now share with people. These are only a small part of the knowledge that I have written in this notebook.

Goals & strategies notebook: Once every 2 weeks to 1 month, I note 1-2 times.

Success Diary notebook: At the beginning, it was very hard to note (when negative emotions were high). At present, it is only 1 time for 1-2 weeks.

Expect to maintain 2-3 days noting 1 time.

Personal financial notebook: Noting once every 3-10 days.

Relationship book: Managing on excel file, updated once every 1-2 months.

Daily work notebook: Use regularly daily.

I feel quite excited when reread at times: There are things that I cannot believe of what I have written – because I don’t remember anything. There are some thoughts that is good at the time of noting but it is very funny and dumb at this time – because of being silly. And there are things I predicted to dream of the future – have come true.

  1. You should buy big notebooks, hardcover record a lot. (should not use a small notebook because it getting full quickly after a short time of noting, and sometimes get lost).
  2. You can do Hybrid: Take note on smart phone, save Online and Paper Book.
  3. Defining your HABITS is more important than MONEY. At first, you are not familiar with it but will gradually get used to it. Many people have THINK of successful people but they never succeed. Reason? They only have the THINKing, but never have the HABITS of the successful people.
  4. You may occasionally forget not to write, do not blame on yourself. Keep on. Yesterday is over, today is the day we continue.

SUMMARY: 6 notebooks to change your life include:
